Even if you have perfect eyesight and good reflexes, you would still have to work to improve your typing skills. You have to know how to keep your hands on the keyboard, which fingers to use and so on. GS Typing Tutor can teach you these rules and much more. It includes numerous lessons and exercises, which can help you memorize the keyboard's layout and type rapidly, without looking down at your keyboard.

The software's trial version does not come with locked lessons or exercises, but you can't launch it for more than 30 times. The setup file is almost 20 MB and the installation procedure is fast and simple. The application works on all popular Windows versions and it provides support for numerous keyboard layouts.

When launched, GS Typing Tutor will lock your desktop, so you can focus on improving your typing skills. Selecting the available options, on the main interface, will display different lists with lessons, exercises and games, as well as statistics regarding your progress. The included lessons cover everything, from how you should sit at your computer to how you should place your hands on the keyboard or what fingers you should use for certain keys.

You don't have to go through the lessons in a particular order. You can start with any lesson, depending on your current skills. During a lesson, the software will present a series of instructions and you may click the Back and Forward buttons to proceed to the next instructions or go back to previous ones. When you reach an exercise, the software will present words or random letters and spaces and you will have to press the corresponding buttons on your keyboard. During an exercise, a graphical representation of the keyboard and hands will tell you which button to press and which finger to use.

When you finish an exercise, the software will display a series of statistics, on a tabbed window, which include your typing speed, as well as your worst and best keys. You can also exercise by typing entire text fragments or by playing a game. GS Typing Tutor comes with a special practice feature, which you can use to exercise with characters of your choice. Alternatively, you can start a special practice round, using your worst characters.

Pros

The software includes numerous lessons, exercises and games, which can help you improve your typing skills. A series of graphical representations will help you spot the correct keys and figure out which fingers to use. The software also provides you with detailed statistics regarding your progress.

Cons

The trial version is restricted to 30 uses. If you exercise with GS Typing Tutor each day, you will never have to look at your keyboard while typing.
